MAY 4, 2017. With a number of regular members away there was a lower turnout than usual. Nevertheless, they and two guests were treated to some interesting images of doors and windows - which was last month's project. These were followed as usual by our PlusONE feature and once again there were an eclectic set of images taken by members. Click on the above links to see them. This month's project is Black&White.
After the interval Eddie gave an illustrated talk on his early career in newspaper photography. The period covered, 1954-1973, saw the transition of the archetypal press photographer to a photojournalist - thanks in part to international figures such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and mainly through the emergence of the 35mm SLR camera with interchangeable lenses. A brief summary of his talk can be see here

APRIL 6 2017. Guest speaker Andy Smith from Folkestone gave us an inspiring and entertaining talk on how to achieve stunning landscapes and seascapes the simple way. That is without myriad lenses and complicated camera settings - and without masses of processing on the computer. The secret is timing (early morning or sundown is best), and a couple of neural density filters (one a graduated one to balance up sky and land/sea). We then  reviewed our images of last moth's project, "Food". As ever members came up with some very creative images (including a rat! Animal food!). This month the project is "Windows and/or doors". Next meeting is Thursday, May 4 when we will also be having a talk entitled "Press Photography and Photojournalism" given by Eddie based on his earlier career in Fleet Street and local newspapers.

Reports of previous meetings can be found on the News Archive page.
